At Rusty's Inc., it is our goal to provide our customers with the highest quality of plumbing and HVAC service and installations. To do this, we need to continue to
maintain the highest quality workforce.
Starting in May (2005), we will start a new employee training program. This is a
mandatory program for all employees. The program is based on a points system, with all employees required to accumulate 5 training points per month. Following are brief
explanations of acceptable training and the associated points which may be acquired.
In-house training class- 5 points
These classes will be
presented at nights or on weekends by members of our staff. We will hold at
least one class
per month. Classes may range from new
product presentations, skills training, customer
relations, and
personal development. These classes are
the core of our training program, and attendance
is
recommended. Employees will not be paid
for their attendance. Refreshments
usually provided.
Plumbing Class- 5 points
Enrollment and attendance to
plumbing classes at the tech schools or CC Plumbing school. Tuition to
these classes are
reimbursed with approval by Rusty's management.
Manufacturers training classes- 5 points
Many manufacturers, though our vendors,
present classes to provide training on the installation
and service of
their products. Attendance at one of
these classes will be accepted as a month's
training
requirements.
NATE training with certification- 5 points
North American
Technician Excellence. These
classes and testing are rare in our area, but if you get
the chance, it is
a great opportunity to become certified by a national organization. See Mike R.
for
more information
on this program.
Video w/ quiz- 4
points
Take a training video home, view it, and
fill out the "simple" quiz. Quiz is not graded, just to show that
you watched the
video.
Powerpoint presentation with quiz- 4 points
These are computer training presentations
which are viewed on Microsoft Powerpoint. These CD's can
be taken
home. If you don't have Powerpoint, see us about borrowing a copy. Again, a simple quiz.
Select publications or articles with quiz- 4 points
Select books, booklets, and
articles can be taken home for self-training.
Again, a quiz.
Manufacturers product presentation- 3 points
Our vendors often give short presentations
on certain products they carry, especially new products.
These are usually simple information
presentations ( as compared to training sessions) that
the
manufacturer presents
at the supply house, or a local restaurant.
Trade show attendance- 3 points
Attendance to a trade show
can give you a good opportunity to see the newer products available
in our
market.
Magazine-
1 point
If you haven't had the time this month to
attend any training sessions, there are plenty of trade
magazines in our
training room. You can receive one point
for each magazine that you check
out. No quizzes or anything.
Visit Websites- 1 point
Even easier than taking a magazine home,
surf the web for manufacturer or trade websites.
There is a list of many sites in the
training room. Just submit a list of the
sites you visit
for credit.
If there is an unlisted activity for which you feel training credit should be received, please
let us know. We would also appreciate any ideas on training topics.
The training center will be located in the break-room/kitchen (upstairs). There we will
keep a library of any training materials we have, as well as, a bulletin board with training info, and a schedule of upcoming trade shows and outside training classes.
This program is a mandatory part of your job, and all employees will be required to maintain an acceptable training record of 5 points per month. Any employee who fails to
acquire 5 points in a given month will be allowed 30 days to make up the training.
If you have any questions, please contact Mike Roderick.
